Meeting spiritual guides of the Atikamekw and Maya nations

Since the beginnings of time, human beings have wondered about the origin of the world and all things. Traditional cultures have their own creation or foundation myths, and some aspects of them echo what science tells us. This event is an opportunity to get to know them better. Come meet wise men and women of the Atikamekw and Maya nations. Like their ancestors before them, the Atikamekw spiritual guides Charles and Christian Coocoo will tell the cosmogony of their people, but will also make links between those age-old stories and science.

Grandmother Lesvia Vela, a Maya Ajq’ij, or recognized spiritual guide, from Guatemala, will also be present. In Canada, she is the official representative of Rigoberta Menchú, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992. She will talk about the Mayan cosmovision and the plenitude of life, while also presiding over a flower ceremony. In her culture, flowers are sacred and must be treated like human beings. At these meetings, you’ll learn more about these cultures through close, genuine contact with the spiritual guides. At the end of the event, boreal forest tea will be served to all.
