The Chinese celebrate nature in thousands of ways. Many of their rituals are intimately linked with the theory of the Five Elements: water, earth, fire, wood and metal. Water is at the heart of this world view, as the source and binding force of the other four.
It is intelligent, wise, gentle and flexible all at once. Water is also associated with the DRAGON, the beneficial yet dangerous creature living in the heart of the oceans and clouds.
The dragon, representing China as a whole, will be the star of the 25th edition of the lantern festival in the Chinese Garden. It will be accompanied by its nine offspring, protecting the newly restored pavilions. And around them will be flying red-crowned cranes, symbolizing the longevity of the friendship between Montréal and Shanghai.
