Composer and performer of Innu origin

Author, composer and performer of Innu origin and born in Labrador in 1959, Florent Vollant grew up on a reserve called Maliotenam, east of Sept-Îles. He began his musical career in the mid-eighties and then contributed to the creation of the Innu Nikamu Festival which, since 1984, annually brings together many musicians and singers from various Native American nations. The past few years have been punctuated with numerous awards and distinctions. First, in May 2017, Florent Vollant was honored with the title of Compagnon des arts et des lettres du Québec, an important distinction awarded by the CALQ. He was also awarded the 'Best Artist' and 'Best Album' awards for Puamuna at the Teweikan Gala the following autumn. In addition to winning the SODEC-Bourse Rideau European Jury Award in February 2018, he was decorated in June with the prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Quebec's Gold Medal.
