The passionate team at the Insectarium has put together a colourful event that will introduce you to these fascinating creatures. Les Butineries is three days of free family activities taking place just steps from the museum.

You’re bound to fall under the spell of these essential allies of biodiversity.

The event will take place rain or shine (except in the case of thunderstorms).
Most activities are offered in French only.

Shows and Guided Activities

Émeraude et le monarque
10:15 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
Puppet show; duration: 30 minutes
A young girl makes the acquaintance of a monarch butterfly, which will dazzle her eyes and melt her heart. 

Pollinisateurs à relais
1 p.m. and 1:25 p.m.
Relay race; duration: 20 minutes
Become a pollinator insect that has to transport its precious pollen from flower to flower as efficiently as possible!

Le grand Bill... en musique!
2:15 p.m.
A musical tale with the OSM; duration: 30 minutes
Bill is a tiny explorer in search of his true nature! Follow his heartwarming and funny adventures through a world of flowers, bumblebees and aerial rodeos.

Les pollinisateurs – ces alliés à protéger

Guided talk; duration: 30 minutes
Explore the world of Québec’s pollinator insects and learn more about their roles, their diversity and the concrete actions we can take to protect them.

Do-it-yourself workshop
Create a unique garden hat where insects and flowers live in harmony.

La métamorphose du monarque
12:15 to 1 p.m.
Guided activity and colouring
Take a journey into the life of the monarch butterfly, from tiny egg to fluttering adult. Then bring your new knowledge to life by colouring a page illustrating the life cycle of this fascinating insect.

Butineuse collectionneuse
1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Craft workshop
Using colourful, translucent recycled materials, create your own frame inspired by pollinators.

Pompons de pollen
3 to 4 p.m.
Craft workshop
Make pollen-inspired pom-poms, then assemble them into a cute bag charm.

Step into the fascinating world of pollinators. Discover the essential role they play in nature and leave inspired to take concrete action on their behalf.

Love monarchs? Contribute to their conservation by discovering how to get involved in this community-science project!

Duration: 30 minutes
A monarch caterpillar dreams of becoming a magnificent butterfly and taking off on a great journey southward. A magical adventure for the whole family.

Insect Lives — Butterflies and Moths of Québec
11:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.
Duration: 20 minutes
Québec’s butterflies are as diverse in their behaviours and forms as they are in colour. Meet three species with plenty to share.

Explor’insects
10:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
Duration: 20 minutes
The Pollinator Garden flourishes just outside the Insectarium. Accompanied by a member of the education team, discover the diversity of insects that call it home.

Monarch Migration
12:45 p.m.
Duration: 20 minutes
Children are invited to dress up in a butterfly costume and twirl around with other little monarchs in a joyful, colourful migration.

Little Pollinators Parade
4:30 p.m.
Duration: 20 minutes
Children are invited to dress up as pollinators and be part of a totally buzz-worthy parade.
