It’s one of the best times of the year to look up at the sky: the Perseid meteor shower is back! Come with family or friends to enjoy a free evening of observing the night sky at the Planétarium, where science, astronomy and wonder come together. Learn about the Perseids On August 12 and 13, discover how this astronomical phenomenon is formed, why it returns every year and what makes it one of the most anticipated celestial events of the year. Program of activities: Naked-eye observation of the night sky from the lawn, accompanied by a Planétarium science educator Guided telescope observations led by volunteers of the Société d’astronomie du Planétarium de Montréal (SAPM) Screening of the film Les origines des Perséides at 9 p.m. in the Milky Way Theatre Screening of the English-language film The Origin of the Perseids at 9 p.m. in the Chaos Theatre Introduction to using a planisphere in the main hall Useful information: All activities offered as part of this event are free and do not require reservations. The films are presented starting at 9 p.m. and play every 30 minutes, with the last screening at 11:30 p.m. Bring your own blanket to stretch out on the lawn and count the meteors! In case of bad weather, only indoor activities will take place.
